Islay is home to common seals (harbour seals) and Grey seals. Seals can be seen sunbathing on the rocks around the island's coast. On your way to Fairy Hill Cottage you will pass Seal Bay.
Past the Kildalton Cross lies Claggan Bay
It is common to find red and fallow deer walking through the Fairy Hill Cottage garden and eating the grass there.
The Kildalton Cross is one of the finest early Christian crosses in Scotland. It is a monolithic high cross in Celtic cross form in the churchyard of the former parish church of Kildalton. It was carved probably in the second half of the 8th century AD.
The Kildalton Chapel and Cross are a short walk from Fairy Hill Cottage along a single track road surrounded by nature.

Fairy Hill Cottage is located next to a burn (river) which runs down from the hills and feeds into the sea a short distance away.

The Kildalton Cross is often considered the finest surviving Celtic cross in Scotland, and is certainly one of the most perfect monuments of its date to survive on western Europe.

People have always claimed to have seen magical lights and heard fairy music on the hill at night. Fairy Hill cottage has a log book to record any magical occurrences witnessed by guests.

From the end of September and during October while at Fairy Hill cottage you may hear some strange, eerie calls rolling over the grassy glen. Do not fear, its only deer! During the rutting season stags will use their call to attract hinds (female red deer)
During your stay you will see wildlife such as deer.
You can see the whisky making process and sample some drams.

The Swans on Islay do not live in lakes, but in the sea. The Isle of Islay is home to many birds. There are less natural predators on the isle compared with the mainland.
